For this sculpture Scoppola has based the name on a play with the English language combined with the characteristics of the sculpture body.
‘Spare Whale’ alludes both to a sperm whale and the sculpture’s function as a penny bank, while ‘Summer Holiday’ alludes to the size of the body and how much can be stowed within its form.
